Interesting foodie stuff
May 10th, 2008 by TrinifoodSweden-based Jamaican cook John Bull from the Back A Yard Restaurant in Stockholm is a natural star isn’t he? Check out his video above, as he cooks saltfish fritters, a real Caribbean food classic.
I really enjoyed looking at John Bull cook, because it’s like being in the kitchen with an old friend. He’s got a few other recipes including Curry Goat and Ackee and Saltfish, you can see them here.
Thank God Ramsay’s a chef, not a politician
Gordon Ramsay caused a storm yesterday when he said that restaurants should be fined - yes fined - for with vegetables and fruits that are out of season. It is sensible to encourage restaurants to cook seasonally as much as possible, but fining them? Seems a bit extreme and a tad hypocritical to me, particularly since lots of stuff on Ramsay’s menus are neither local nor seasonal.
If Ramsay had his way, it would be extremely detrimental to farmers in developing countries, to say the least. I have a lot of respect for Ramsay, but I think this is a bit of timely exposure, after all he’s got a new book out and his new tv show starts in a couple of weeks. I’m not the only one who thinks so, as Tim Hayward reports in this Guardian article.
An egg-citing range
Forget my attempt at tabloid style headline writing and head to Gourmet Magazine’s excellent new website. They done a really good slideshow featuring eggs. I’m going to head down to Borough Market and pick up an ostrich egg for a massive omelette soon!
Catching up with Aidan
Fellow blogger Aidan Brooks was interviewed by Trusted Places. The lucky man’s working in Barcelona now, and from all accounts, he’s having a ball. Aidan recommended us as a blog to visit, and we love him for that. Aidan has promised to cook for me when ever I visit Barcelona, I’ll have to take him up on that offer.
