About this blog

What is it?
Can Cook, Must Cook was born on Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2006.
This is quite fitting because food and cooking are two of my biggest passions and what better way to show this love by shouting about it?

Who am I?
My name is Franka Philip, I’m a Trinidadian journalist and I live in London.

Why do I blog?
When some of my friends started blogging a few years ago, I looked on with envy as they revealed their innermost feelings to the world. But I knew that kind of blogging wasn’t for me because I tend to keep my feelings private. I started the blog when I decided to pursue my dream of writing a book about Caribbean cuisine. I felt that writing on a regular basis will help me to develop the discipline for writing. As time goes on, I get more and more committed to blogging and I feel awful if I can’t write for whatever reason. I intend to continue this, even after I get fulfil my dream of writing the book.

What kind of things do I write about?
It’s mainly about my own culinary experiences. I also review books and throw in the odd recipe here and there. The aim is to write about things that excite me and hopefully, that will excite my readers. As I get some more clarity on what my book will be about, the tone of the blog should become more serious but no less enjoyable. There are a lot of issues out there about food (and Caribbean food in particular) that need to be explored.

Feel free to share!
Half the pleasure of this blog is getting comments from readers, especially other food bloggers. There’s a lot to be gained from sharing! If someone doesn’t want to leave a comment, they can send an email to cancookmustcook[AT]gmail[dot]com. I’ve written the address that way to avoid the spammers! I always try my best to respond.

Any future ambitions?
The book of course. All I can say is watch this space!
